Indonesia, according to a recent GMA News report is said to be leaning towards a “palit-ulo,” or a prisoner exchange when it comes to the case of Mayor Alice Guo.
In a report on 24Oras, it stated that the case of the dismissed Bamban Mayor is different from that of Cassandra Li-Ong and Sheila Guo, who were immediately sent back to the Philippines after they were arrested by Indonesian Immigration officers.
According to the GMA News report, the Indonesian government prefers to exchange Alice Guo for a wanted person in Indonesia who was arrested and imprisoned here in the Philippines.
24Oras then shared what looked like a screengrab of an Indonesian news site showing a headline that suggest that Indonesian authorities are currently negotiating with its Philippine counterpart.
“Polri negotiates to exchange fugitives with Philippines, Alice Guo exchanged with fugitive BNN Gregor Johann Haas,” the headline on the news site JawaPos.com reads.
Polri is the Indonesian National Police.
The GMA report further states that Gregor Johan Haas, an Australian national, is wanted in Indonesia for drug trafficking and is believed to be a member of the notorious Sinaloa drug cartel of Mexico.
The report went on to say that Haas was arrested in Bogo, Cebu in May of this year on the strength of a warrant issued by the Interpol or International Police.
Haas faces several drug charges in Indonesia, a crime that carries a death penalty in that Southeast Asian country.
