A victim of a shooting incident in Bacolod City was said to have appealed to a gunman not to shoot him as he is taking care of a child.
In a report by RMN Bacolod, it stated that according to police authorities, someone witnessed the shooting incident, which included the time the gunman accosted the victim.
In a separate interview by Bomboradyo Bacolod, Police Captain Glenn Montaño, the station commander of Bacolod City Police Station 10, said a witness, who is a minor, narrated how the gunman accosted and later shot the victim at Purok Zone 1 in Barangay Handumanan in Bacolod City.
The police have also identified the victim as 37-year-old Arnold Caballes, a security guard, and residing at the adjacent Barangay Cabug.
P/Capt. Montaño said the witness saw the victim riding a black Honda TMX 125 motorcycle, who is said to have gone to a nearby store to buy some food.
As the victim was traversing the road back home, the suspect followed him aboard a red motorcycle.
Upon reaching an area where the witness, happened to also be walking nearby, the victim stopped to talk to someone over his mobile phone.
It was at this point that the suspect allegedly bumped the motorcycle of Caballes, causing the latter and his vehicle to fall down.
The witness, according to the police, said that the suspect then drew his gun, upon which the victim knelt down in front of him and appealed not to shoot him as he’s still caring for a child.
“Kas, wag mo akong barilin. May inaalagaan pa akong bata,” Caballes, according to the witness, supposedly told the suspect.
The gunman allegedly answered the victim that it’s not his problem anymore
“Wala akong pakialam kahit ano pa ang iyong problema,” the suspect, according to the witness, allegedly said.
The witness, in his narration to police authorities, said that it was at this point that the gunman shot Caballes twice.
According to P/Capt. Montaño, the witness told police authorities that he saw the gunman wearing a hood, face mask, and sunglasses.
The witness also said that the face mask of the suspect even fell down while he was shooting the security guard.
Police authorities also say that the witness saw Caballes was still able to run towards a grassy area, but suspect followed him and allegedly shot the victim several more times, causing the latter’s untimely demise.
The police found the lifeless body of the security guard in the grassy area with his head, still with a motorcycle helmet on, buried in the mud.
Police say they found beside Caballes’ body, who was wearing a black t-shirt, black short, and helmet, a bag containing about 10 kilos of rice and three butane gas canisters.
Authorities were looking at love triangle and personal grudge as possible motives for security guard Caballes' killing.
