Chalise Smith is a 50-year-old mom-of-eight that’s pregnant with her own grandchild after she stepped in as a surrogate for her daughter.
Namely, Smith, from Utah, offered to be a surrogate for her 24-year-old daughter Kaitlyn Munoz after she was told that she can’t have children due to an auto-immune disease.
Back in 2019, Kaitlyn was diagnosed with a disease that attacks the healthy parts of her body, called Sjorgren’s Syndrome.
Although she was lucky enough to conceive and give birth to her son Callahan through IVF, she wasn’t able to get pregnant a second time. Luckily, her mom stepped in and Chalise is now pregnant with IVF with Kaitlyn’s second child – a girl.
Kaitlyn revealed that during her first pregnancy, she was told by doctors that it wouldn’t be safe for her to carry any more children. She was crushed, as it has always been her dream to have a big family.
Her mom Chalise, a farm owner of Hee Haw Farms in Utah, was devastated when she heard the news.
Although Kaitlyn was lucky enough to carry Callahan to an almost full-term, as Sjorgren’s often causes early miscarriages, she was told that she wouldn’t be able to have any more children. The mom thought a long time about that, and after a few months, she called her daughter and offered to be her surrogate.
After having eight perfect pregnancies of her own, the 50-year-old told her daughter that she’s absolutely on board, but she was aware that everyone involved needed to be 100 percent on board – including Kaitlyn’s husband Miguel.
‘Everyone agreed and my husband was 110 percent with me all the way through.’ – she added.
Expectedly, given her age, Chalise had to go through a lot of health checks before she could get the all-clear for becoming a surrogate, but once they were given a green light, she had two embryos implanted in September, and that has resulted in her now being pregnant with her granddaughter.
Speaking about the situation and her mom’s surrogacy, Kaitlyn said:
“I was so shocked when my mom offered to be my surrogate, she’s always been so supportive of what I want to do in life and my dreams of having a big family.
I know that all of her pregnancies went perfectly and that she is extremely healthy, so I never doubted that there would be any issues with her being my surrogate.”
Chalise concluded that she’s super-excited to see her granddaughter for the first time, and she believes the highlight of the whole surrogacy experience will be seeing her daughter’s face light up as she welcomes her daughter into the world.
