Gynecologist Refused To Tie This Woman’s Tubes, Sparking a Very Important Conversation About Women’s Rights

You’ve probably heard about the procedure called ‘getting your tubes tied’ – medically known as tubal ligation, or female sterilization.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists reports that it’s ethically permissible to perform the procedure on women who do not wish to have children. It’s permanent sterilization, but sadly, many physicians still approach sterilization requests from young women with scepticism and paternalism – and this is exactly what happened to the 22-year-old Olivia. She shared her conversation with a gynaecologist on TikTok, where it went viral.

The video has since been viewed more than 2 million times, and in iit, Olivia shared what happened at the appointment with her gynaecologist, when he declined her request for sterilization, telling her that ‘it’s permanent’.

After her video went viral, Olivia received overwhelmiing support from other women from all around the world. Many others expressed their concern over this issue, especially due to the fact that it’s our lawful right to decide whether we want to have children or not.
She commented that she learned that many women have been in the same situation – being denied tubal litigation and similar procedures.
