Can You Create a Cohesive Strategy Using AI Marketing Tools?

Almost everyone’s talking about Artificial Intelligence (AI) lately. As a marketer, you might be wondering if you can use advanced language models such as ChatGPT to create effective campaigns. Fortunately, there are several ways you can utilize AI to plan your marketing strategies.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at AI marketing tools and whether it makes sense to use them. We’ll also look at a few ways you can devise a campaign with AI. Let’s get started!

What Are AI Marketing Tools?

If we’re talking about using AI for marketing, it’s important to differentiate between tools such as ChatGPT and software specifically designed with marketing in mind. There are a lot of amazing marketing tools that implement AI in some way, whether it’s to help you segment customers, provide personalized experiences, or automate outreach:

This type of marketing software has existed for a while and it can make your job much easier. In this case, AI helps you analyze large amounts of customer data and generates insights based on that information. However, it leaves the marketing strategy in your hands.

Newer AI tools, such as ChatGPT, provide a more proactive approach. They can help you analyze data and you can ask them questions about how to market your business.

Depending on the tool you use, it may be able to guide you through the process of creating a marketing strategy. For example, it could suggest ideas for your business and tell you what steps you need to take to reach your goal.

Why Use AI for Marketing?

AI tools can help you be more efficient. However, if someone tells you that you can create a fully-tailored marketing strategy for your business using tools such as ChatGPT, they’re probably wrong.

AI can be incredibly helpful in terms of marketing. It’s capable of analyzing huge amounts of data and implementing basic automation based on that information.

However, tools such as ChatGPT are different. In many ways, they’re like having access to an assistant that knows a bit about everything and can help you come up with innovative solutions:

The downside is that this tool doesn’t have a full understanding of your market or your business. You can feed it heaps of information in a prompt, but you’re ultimately dealing with language models that try to return an answer that fits your criteria.

An AI tool can help you generate hundreds of ideas for marketing campaigns, social media posts, and more, all in a matter of minutes. However, you still need human expertise to decide what works and what doesn’t.

At this point, if you’re an experienced marketer and you have a solid strategy in place, you might not need to leverage AI to get better results. However, it’s always a smart move to familiarize yourself with technologies that can affect your industry. As ChatGPT continues to evolve, you’ll want to find ways to utilize it for streamlining your workflow and exploring new ideas.

Examples of How AI Can Help You Plan a Campaign

In this section, we’ll be using ChatGPT to explore examples of how AI can help you create a marketing strategy. We’ll also evaluate how well each approach works and discuss when it makes sense to use it.

Other AI tools, such as AutoGPT, can also produce helpful results. However, since AutoGPT requires you to have access to the ChatGPT API, the process is more involved. Ultimately, you can get similar results from using ChatGPT with multiple prompts and even more so if your account gives it access to the web.

Outline a Basic Marketing Plan for Your Business

When asking ChatGPT for a marketing plan, you’ll want to explain what kind of business you run. The secret to getting useful responses from AI tools is to be as descriptive as possible with your prompts.

If you ask ChatGPT to help you create a marketing plan and describe your business superficially, you’ll likely get a detailed but generic response:

Example of how ChatGPT can help create a marketing plan after you can describe your business.

You’ll probably get better results if you give ChatGPT as much context as possible. In our case, we asked it to generate a marketing plan for a sporting goods store that specializes in tennis equipment and is looking to break into the home gym equipment market:

The more context you provide to ChatGPT for your query, the more responsive it can be.

As you may notice, the advice that ChatGPT gives can be pretty basic. As an experienced marketer, this information may already be familiar to you. However, using AI to create a simple, step-by-step plan can be useful if you’re new to marketing and you need some guidance on how to get started.

Use ChatGPT for Competitor Analysis

When you take out a premium ChatGPT account, you’ll be able to ask the tool for information about specific websites. For example, if we ask ChatGPT to analyze what kind of marketing Velocitize does, this is what we get:

If you want to learn more about a specific website, you can do so with further prompts. In our case, we asked ChatGPT about the posting frequency of the website and the type of content it publishes:

Providing more information and additional prompts to ChatGPT will result in clearer content.

As you can see, using ChatGPT is like having a marketing assistant who can provide you with a competitor analysis. It does some research on the web and comes back to you with a report.

The only downside is that it can’t look into data such as how much traffic a site gets and what keywords it targets. To get that information, you’ll need to use some type of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) research tool.

Despite its limitations, you can still use ChatGPT to gain insight into what your competitors are doing in terms of marketing. You can then use that data to inform your marketing strategy.

Conclusion

AI tools such as ChatGPT can help you brainstorm marketing ideas and give you insights about your competitors. You can then use that information to put together an effective marketing plan. However, you’ll need human expertise to determine what will work best for your business.
