First, the latest.

The end of Phase 2 of the Gutenberg project is now in sight, capping off the long-awaited WordPress 6.3 development cycle and the release of a new and improved Full Site Editor. The editor enables smoother content editing and navigation, as well as richer customization.

Some highlights from Phase 2 include:

  • Introduction of content editing
  • Addition of Navigation section
  • Addition of Pages and Styles sections
  • Command center tools

Now, the greatest.

Since its introduction in 2003, when its biggest competitor was Movable Type, WordPress has played a fundamental role in establishing and sustaining the democratization of publishing while promoting an inclusive open source culture. WordPress dominates the CMS landscape—it’s the most widely used platform to date, powering over 40% of the web—and its market share is growing at an unbelievable pace.

In fact, by the end of 2025, WP Engine predicts that WordPress will power half of the internet. The ever-widening WordPress ecosystem, along with its loyal community of developers and content creators, fosters collaboration while driving innovation.

From bloggers to enterprise businesses, WordPress has continued to evolve and adapt to new technologies, new users and new audiences. At its core, WordPress is ultimately a simple framework—something that’s easy to forget considering its expansive offerings and numerous benefits. As our friends over at Torque note, it’s not just coding; it’s poetry.

So happy anniversary to WordPress, and to all of the content creators, developers, marketers and coders who have made WordPress their home. It’s been a wild ride.
