New Illinois Bill Would Allow Women To Sue Men For Unwanted Pregnancies

A new bill that’s been proposed in Illinois would change all the possible repercussions for a domestic misdemeanor, assault, and unwanted pregnancies.

The bill was filed by Democratic state Rep. Kelly Cassidy, and it’s called ‘The EXpanding Abortion Services Act’. The acronym of the bill spells out ‘TEXAS’. See what she did there?
The bill comes as a direct response to the infamous Texas legislature that bans all abortions past the fetal heartbeat. According to Cassidy’s bill, the new law would outline new civil penalties for misdemeanors and assaults.

“What would the implication for Illinois be if we adopted a similar approach? What is the impact on our civil court system? What is the impact of deputizing neighbors to turn each other in for money?” – she said.

Otherwise known as The Expanding Abortion Services (TEXAS) Act, the newly introduced legislation (HB4146) would allow a person to sue anyone that causes an unintended pregnancy, and create a public abortion fund for non-Illinoisans.

The newly introduced legislation would allow anyone to sue anyone that causes an unintended pregnancy and create a public abortion fund for people that are not from Illinois.
The bill was introduced a few weeks after the Texas abortion law came into effect on September 1, 2021, and according to Cassidy, the new bill would examine how extreme the new Texas abortion law is.
